Infectious Mononucleosis (Mono) a.k.a. kissing disease is a very common illness caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which is a member of the herpesvirus. Symptoms of this virus include fever, sore throat, and malaise. This virus can infect any person and is spread by person to person contact, primarily saliva. Usually there is no specific treatment for mono as it is directed toward the relief of symptoms.
